RDP Enable Utility ( remote desktop enable )

RDP

RDP Enable version 3.0.0 - Updated 10.22.2009

Remote Desktop Enable Utility will enable Remote Desktop connections on remote servers. It will also change the port number that RDP listens on. This is good to add a layer of security in.

Enable Remote Desktop (RDP) if you forgot to do it when you built the system or if your working remotley and cant access the server. Also change the port number Remote Desktop listens on.

UPDATE!

RDP has been updated to version 3.0.0. Powerful new features include-

  • Ability to enable remote desktop on systems that are on different domains. That means you can be at home or wherever on a computer that is not part of the domain you are accessing and still turn on RDP as long as you have a username and password with permission.
  • Add users to the "Remote Desktop Users Group" on any server/workstation you have access too.
  • Turn off RDP on any system you have access too.
  • Results window that gives you blow by blow stats on what is happening when you run the utility.

This is one of those "Must Have Utilities!"

I get emails from engineers all the time thanking me for this one, here are a couple...

"I like to support those who do little programs that can save me and my techs a lot of time in the field. Sometimes we have clients where we need 10-12 desktops RDP accessible from the internet - and this just makes it a breeze!"
-Oly G.

Got home last night and couldnt access the system I set up just before I left work! Your tool got me access easily, Thanks again!"

-Scott L.

So if you need to access a system using RDP and it's not turned on here's the tool that will get the job done quick and easy.

Included with your purchase updates will be sent to you automatically for one full year!

So what are you waiting for? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Very sweet tool. Got me into my PC over VPN last night. Source available? I'd like to know what the tool is doing. Is it just enabling the registry key or is it executing a remote command somehow? What happens if you don't have permissions to the remote machine?

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks for the comment. The tool is making registry changes and doing some NT authentication so you do need to have permissions to the system your trying to activate. I thought the code for it was in the Winbatch script section but I'll have to check?

You may want to look at the RDPEnable Beta, I added the ability to add an account to the remote users group on the system you are trying to access.

Arconi,

I was playing with the app on my Vista Home Premium laptop just to see if it'd work. The port opens but it doesn't work, with no firewalls involved. I know that it's not supposed to work in Home Premium without further mods, I was just thinking that it would be cool if you integrated those mods into your tool.

If you're interested, here's a link to batch file showing what changes are made for the different versions:

Thanks,

Eric

Enable Home Machine from Work
written by Jon , February 15, 2010

Is there a way to enable a workgroup machine on a home network connected to a router? The machine in question has a static IP address but the current listening port is 3389. The router already has the information in it to redirect RDP requests on a specific port to that machine but the registry settings on the remote machine in question have not been done. I know the internet address of the cable modem/router but cannot get to the the machine in question. is this possible?

I have this same setup working for my own purposes. The thing that you have to make sure of is that whatever port your systems is listening on your router is listening on as well. So in a nutshell your settings need to be:
1.Computer RDP port: 3389 (or whatever custom one you chose)
2.Router listening on port: 3389 (and passing packets back to your systems IP, \"port forwarding\")
3.Make sure the remote registry and remote access services are running on the system if you want to use the RDP tool to access is.
4.Once you have this configured you can open RDP and enter the IP of the system and if you chose a custom port then you have to enter that as well, like this:
a.custom port 7785 = x.x.x.x:7785

Workgroup mode shouldn\'t matter unless you have created an admin account on the system and your using passwords to access it. Then you should use that account and password to access it.

Hope that helps.

It all looks great in theory but...
written by Click , October 12, 2010

I was amazed at the simplicity and the usefulness of your product. I have been doing IT for years and years and this tool could have saved me hundreds of hours of travel time. I have a question however, most of my clients now have Vista, and I have found out that Murphy's law comes up more often than not as far as Vista is concerned. What if I run the program, it enables remote, but the firewall won't let me through?

So I have been able to use this through the firewall, mainly becuase it's a windows firewall. As long as you connect with the correct permissions it will let you through. That's why in the instructions it say's "you need to use the tool with an account that has local admin permission to the computer your connecting too". Hope that answers your conerns.
