The Share Permissions Search utility is used to look into a share or folder on your network and create a simple report on the ACL (access control list) of all the folders in that share or folder.

Immediate Uses______________________________________________________________

There are great programs like DumpSec that will do almost the same thing and have more choices; but for a quick permissions report with no setup involved this one works great.

Instructions______________________________________________________________________________
  1. Open the utility up and type the path to the folder you want to search permissions for or press the "..." button and choose the location.
  2. Remember that if you type the path you need to put the "\" at the end.
  3. After the utility finishes the permissions search Internet Explorer will open up and display the permissions report.
    • It's very basic but gives you the info you need.
    • Also a text file report is created.
  4. Both reports, text and HTML, will be placed on the root of your hard drive.
    • Also remember to move the HTML report to a safe location when our done because the program will overwrite it every time it runs.
  5. NOTE: As of this version if you choose your local hard drive to search you will get back a report of all the first level folders but no permissions. I hope to have this resolved in the next version.

**Please remember you must be a "local admin" or a member of the "local admins" group on the system you are running the tools from.
